List of CBD and CBG Hemp Strains

Since the passing of the Farm Bill in 2018, the US hemp industry has exploded. Breeders from Oregon to Kentucky have put their collective heads together to create some incredibly diverse strains, focusing on everything from CBG and CBD content to rich terpene profiles.

Whether you're smoking, vaping, or eating, and whether you prefer hemp flowers bristling with frosty trichomes or the purest CBD oil, there is a little something for everyone.

In this guide, we'll look at some of the best hemp flower strains on the market today, covering both CBD and CBG varieties. All are designed to produce less than 0.3% tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), thus remaining within federal restrictions.

High CBD Strains

Cannabidiol (CBD) is the cannabinoid that has received the most attention over the last few years. It's the one that everyone wants and the one that growers have focused on the most. As a result, there is an abundance of CBD-rich hemp plants, including:

A cross between Pebble OG and Alien Sour Apple, Abacus was bred by Green Acorns and has dense and bright buds that are always sure to impress.

Abacus was first launched in 2017 and delivers up to 20% CBD with a complex concoction of terpenes that produce a variety of flavors and aromas.

With thundering drums, crunching guitars, and raspy vocals, the band ACDC is anything but calming, but the opposite is true for the ACDC strain.

This strain is not the most flavorful and has been described as "flat" and "monotonous." It's strong, but not complex, something that we definitely can't say about Johnson, Young, and Co. However, the effects are a little more pronounced and it’s these effects that have made ACDC a popular strain.

It may improve your mood, boost your focus, and calm you down. Throw on Thunderstruck, roll a gram or two, and prepare for an enjoyable and focused evening.

BaOx is a Sativa-dominant high-CBD strain that is often grown indoors. It is bred from Otto II and Hindu-Kush and is high in CBD (up to 20.5%) and terpenes (0.9%), while delivering legal Farm Bill compliant amounts of THC.

Berry Blossom

Immensely popular and always reliable, Berry Blossom was bred from Chardonnay and Cherry Kandahar S1. It has unmistakable notes of berries and sweet fruits and packs a flavor punch that is often lacking in other strains.

Although there can be a gassy aftertaste, this often disappears when you vape the flowers instead of smoking them.

Bubba Kush

Often grown outdoors, Bubba Kush should be reserved for night-time smoking due to its sedative properties. It is an Indica strain that contains approximately 11% CBD.

Chardonnay has been likened to a fine wine, which is where it gets its name. It combines elements of rich fruits and earthy undertones, like a fine wine. It’s just like a glass or two of wine, as it creates feelings of relaxation and slight giddiness, making for a fun evening with friends.

Charlotte’s Web

Charlotte's Web was developed for someone named Charlotte and has no connection to the book or film of the same name. However, it does combine a multitude of terpenes and cannabinoids that weave a complex web, producing uplifting feelings of creativity and focus when ingested.

Cherry Sweet

A light, relaxing, and soothing strain that could help you get to sleep. It's fruity and gassy, peppery and sweet, and it could be just what you need after a long day.

Cherry Wine

Cherry Wine is one of the most popular CBD hemp strains in the United States. It produces up to 22% CBD and has flavors of sweet cherries with a hint of pepper.

Early Resin Berry

Also known as ERB, this strain has been used to breed countless other popular varieties and is a powerhouse in itself.

It has a somewhat uncertain history, which is a shame for such a ubiquitous strain, but what we do know is that ERB delivers large buds, berry flavors, and high levels of CBD.

Great for eating and smoking, Elektra produces medium-sized nugs and feelings of relaxation. It has nutty, woody, and citrusy flavors.

El Jefe

A great strain for unwinding and relaxing, El Jefe was created by crossing OG Kush and Ultra Haze, delivering an impressing 17.3% CBD along with a terpene profile that provides notes of pepper, lemon, and tropical fruits.

Frosted Lime

Sticky, aromatic, and heavy on the citrus—Frosted Lime produces feelings of stimulation and focus, making it an ideal choice for daytime consumption.

God Strain

With a name like God Strain, you'd expect something special, and this varietal delivers. It was developed in response to an increased demand for high-CBD and low-THC strains. Its fragrance has been compared to tropical fruits, but it delivers a much more industrial taste, with notes of diesel and burnt wood.

Green Gum

A mild and relaxing CBD strain that focuses more on subtlety and lacks the in-your-face aromas and flavors of other strains. If you're struggling to come to terms with strains that are heavy on gassy, woody, and even citrusy flavors, and simply don't like the taste of hemp flowers, this could be a good alternative.

It's still hemp and it still has those flavors, but they are much milder.

Hawaiian Haze

So-named because of its many tropical flavors, Hawaiian Haze has hues of purple, blue, and red, and contains over 14% cannabinoids in total. If you enjoy fruity and citrusy flavors but want something a little more unusual, this could be the strain for you.

It's a pretty bold name but it's one that this strain lives up to. Legendary is an Indica-dominant varietal that contains high levels of CBD and should be consumed during the evening, helping you to relax and preparing you for bed.

A popular mood-lifting strain that typically delivers between 14 and 20% CBD, with fruity and tropical flavors. If you're looking for strains that don't make you tired or tie you to the couch, this could be the one.

Sour Diesel

A cross between Super Skunk and ChemDog 91, Sour Diesel, or "Sour D" as it is known, has been around for quite a few years at this point. It is a perennial favorite among hemp smokers and can always be relied upon to deliver an enjoyable smoke, as well as feelings of positivity and well-being.

Sour Space Candy

A super sharp and tangy strain filled with citrus and tropical flavors. It is a cross between Early Resin Berry and Sour Tsunami and contains over 19% CBD.

Special Sauce

Special Sauce has over 23% total cannabinoids. It has frosted trichomes, beautiful green, orange, and purple hues, and tasting notes of berry and citrus.

Suver Haze

Suver Haze was bred to deliver high levels of CBD while allowing for strong mold-resistance and maximum yields, something that it produces perfectly.

Its CBD content hits an average of 17.59% and its terpene profile includes β-Myrcene, β-Caryophyllene, and Farnesene, creating a host of complex flavors.

T1 (Trump)

Covered with orange hairs and loaded with lemon flavors, T1 is a massively popular strain that was named after the 45th President of the United States.

A go-to for first-time smokers, as well as those looking for a reliable strain to fall back on, Wife is a hybrid with notes of cherry and deeply relaxing effects.

High CBG Strains

Often described as the "mother" of all cannabinoids, CBG has been steadily gaining in popularity and could be set to rival CBD in the next few years. High-quality CBG strains are few and far between at the moment, but there are still a few prominent options to look out for and these options will likely increase with time.

Look for top-shelf varieties of the following to ensure the most complex flavor profiles and to guarantee you're getting plump, dense hemp buds grown without pesticides and other additives.

Jack Frost

Spicy, orangey flavors, frosty buds, and a euphoric experience make Jack Frost the perfect toke for those cold Christmas mornings. It'll perk you up before you clear the driveway and prepare for Christmas dinner with the in-laws.

John Snow

A massive 20% CBG makes John Snow one of the most potent CBG strains on the market right now. It's a great way to sample a cannabinoid that has been linked to a host of health benefits, all while providing sensations of relaxation and sparking your creativity.

Lemon Cream Diesel

Lemon Cream Diesel is an award-winning CBG-dominant strain that was bred by Green Lantern Seeds. A good choice for quality CBG flower and the best way to sample this cannabinoid's painkilling and anti-inflammatory properties.

Super Glue

An Indica-hybrid that has a light piney aroma, sweet flavors, and provides a relaxing experience. The name stems from the fact that it makes you feel like you're glued to the couch.

White CBG

Although it is an Indica-dominant strain, White CBG can be consumed day or night. It has trace amounts of CBD but contains an impressive 11% CBG, making it a great choice for smokers who want to experiment with this minor cannabinoid.
