How to Use Hemp Flower

Whether you’re smoking, vaping, or eating, hemp flowers are a versatile way of getting your fix of cannabinoids. Often sold trimmed and cured, hemp flowers are a safe, legal, and THC-free alternative to cannabis, and they can be used in much the same way.

The flower of the hemp plant is where you’ll find the highest concentration of cannabinoids, flavonoids, and terpenes, creating an aromatic, flavorful, and highly beneficial experience. The best way to unlock those healthy compounds and benefit from their effects is to smoke the flower, and there are several ways you can do this.

Pre-Rolled Joints

Pre-rolls are joints stuffed with hemp flowers of varying qualities and types. More often than not, a retailer that sells jars of trimmed hemp flowers will sell pre-rolls using the same strains. These pre-rolls consist of filter paper and a filtered tip. They are often sold individually, in which case they are packed into plastic or paper tubes, or in packs of 5, 10, and 20, before being sold in cases made from cardboard.

With a pre-roll, you will typically get 1 gram of hemp flower per joint. There is no specific dose requirement for hemp, but a single joint should suffice even the most experienced users, especially when high-CBD strains are used. If you’re a novice smoker, simply put it out, slip it back in the pack, and save it for later.

To make sure you’re getting the best quality each time, always look at the types of flowers used and the quality of product going into the joint.

Some retailers use something known as “shake.” Shake is the bits of flower that fall off the buds and collect at the bottom of the jar. Once the jar has been emptied, this material is added to pre-rolls. It’s still high-quality hemp, however, and the smaller pieces create tighter and more consistent pre-rolls with fewer air pockets.

Many science fiction writers of the 50s and 60s imagined a world where people would freely smoke hemp and cannabis cigarettes. These cigarettes would be manufactured just like their tobacco cousins and would feature many different brands, flavors, and types.

Philip K. Dick and friends may have been wrong about World War Three and the colonization of Mars, but they seemed to have nailed this prediction.

You can now buy 100% hemp flower cigarettes that are tightly rolled and offer an incredibly convenient smoke. They are often sold in packs of 20, so you can carry them around with you and pop one out as needed.

Hempettes undergo much more processing and manufacturing than hand-trimmed hemp flowers, and many of them contain stalks, seeds, and leaves, as well as flowers. Generally, cheaper varietals are used, and you may not get the sort of smooth and flavorful experience that you get with top-shelf flowers.

However, that’s not always the case. As with anything else, there are a lot of different brands and products out there, and they all differ with regards to look, aroma, taste, and benefits.

Hemp Cigars

Hemp cigars are thicker, fatter, and provide more product and a longer smoker than hempettes. These chunky smokables are often sold in individual tubes and are available in several sizes, typically providing anywhere from 2.5 grams to 8 grams of hemp in a single cigar.

As you’re getting more hemp flower in every cigar, you can expect to pay much more than you would for pre-rolls or hempettes. However, the exact price will depend on the strain and the manufacturer.

Bulk Hemp

Hemp flowers are also sold “as-is.” As with all other products, this hemp can vary significantly with regards to taste, aroma, strength, and variety. You can grind the flowers and add them to vaporizers and joints, smoke them in bongs and pipes, or add them to food to create edibles.

Many hemp flower retailers sell paper cones that you pack yourself. These are basically pre-rolls waiting to be rolled. Just break up the flowers, add them to the roll, and use the stick provided to ensure everything is compact.

With hemp flowers, you have the freedom of choice and you may also get more value for your money, but it comes at the cost of convenience.
