Can I Use CBD Gummies Alongside Hemp Flower?

If you’re only just started taking CBD and have inadvertently eaten some gummies soon after smoking flowers, let’s put your mind at rest: everything will be fine. You may feel a little groggier than usual, but unless you have a serious (and extremely rare) allergic reaction, you’ll be good.

If you’re asking this question because you want to get as much CBD as possible over a prolonged period, the answer is a little more complicated.

Can I Use CBD Gummies with Hemp Flowers?

You should always be wary of drug interactions. Accidental overdoses are common, and while they rarely result in serious complications, they can require medical intervention and cause liver damage and other unpleasant side effects.

One of the most common interactions occurs when people take multiple drugs containing the same ingredient, such as acetaminophen. If you take cough, cold, and flu medicines along with regular Tylenol, you could be overdosing on a medication that is perfectly safe within therapeutic doses and incredibly toxic in larger doses.

It’s good practice, therefore, to ask questions like this. It makes sense that you might think that consuming CBD gummies along with hemp flowers presents many of the same issues.

However, this isn’t necessarily the case and the toxicity of CBD is much lower than the drugs sold over the counter in your local pharmacy.

According to the World Health Organization, CBD is considered “generally safe” with no abuse potential. However, as with any substance, the risks increase with the dose.

After all, even water can kill you when you consume too much of it (a condition known as Water Intoxication), so there will be a point where CBD stops being therapeutic and starts being dangerous.

The good news is that you’re unlikely to experience any issues just because you take a couple of gummies while smoking hemp flowers, but the bad news is that there are exceptions.

When Too Much CBD Becomes a Problem

When you consume CBD gummies and hemp flowers, you receive a large dose of CBD that increases the risk of adverse reactions. If you are allergic to any of the ingredients or have a preexisting illness, the risk of side effects increases.

By the same token, you are more likely to experience rare side effects such as dry mouth, headaches, and grogginess, which can occur in all users.

Can Too Much CBD Kill You?

There has been a recorded fatality linked to CBD oil and it is often mentioned by critics of CBD and hemp in general. It was recorded in 2019 and concerned a woman who had been using CBD topical solutions for approximately 5 years before she developed a serious skin condition known as Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS).

It was believed that the CBD caused her SJS and ultimately led to her death. However, it’s worth noting that this is an extreme case, and the patient had a long history of heart and blood problems. If anything, it stresses the importance of speaking with a medical professional if you have pre-existing illnesses and want to start using CBD.

Generally, however, CBD is incredibly low-risk and it’s often deemed to be non-toxic. Unless you are predisposed and are consuming an excessive amount over a long time, you shouldn’t have any issues.

Should I Use CBD Gummies with Hemp Flowers?

Rather than asking, “can you use CBD gummies with hemp flowers?”, try asking, “should you use CBD gummies with hemp flowers?” The answer is usually “no.”

You can get a therapeutic dose of CBD by smoking high-grade flowers or taking gummies, and if you feel like you need a little more, you can simply increase the dose. There’s rarely a need to combine these two and there’s definitely not a need to exceed a therapeutic dose, especially when you consider that highly concentrated gummies and premium hemp flowers are expensive.
