A Guide to Harlequin Hemp Flowers

Harlequins were masked, mute, and colorful characters that featured in Italian comic theater during the Renaissance. It’s not immediately obvious what similarities the Harlequin hemp strain has to these enigmatic characters, but it may have something to do with the strain’s genetics.

It was created from a “patchwork” of different genetics, not unlike the messy, multicolored costumes worn by its namesake. This Sativa-dominant strain was bred from the beloved Colombian Gold, which was then combined with cultivars from Thailand, Switzerland, and Nepal.

Harlequin CBD Hemp Flowers

Harlequin hemp flowers are very tight and dense, with vibrant green leaves interspersed with orange/red pistils. They are layered with a thick coating of trichomes, and it’s these crystalline hairs that lend the flowers their unique flavors and potency.

Cannabinoid and Terpene Content

Harlequin’s cannabinoid content is typically around 10%, while its THC levels remains below 0.3%. It’s not the highest concentration of CBD you will see, but it balances this with over 1% total terpenes, including Myrcene, Pinene, Limonene, Bisabolol, Linalool, and Terpineol.

In combination, these compounds provide something known as the entourage effect, whereby multiple compounds combine to provide a synergistic experience, offering medicinal and recreational benefits.

Harlequin Aroma and Flavors

Although it doesn’t have the strongest and most distinctive flavor profile, Harlequin is still an enjoyable strain. Its flavors are very earthy and woody, with bitter undertones. It’s mild, slightly floral, and it leaves a lingering bitterness on the palate.

It’s an overall pleasant experience that will appeal particularly well to inexperienced smokers seeking something mild and inoffensive.

Effects of Harlequin Hemp Flowers

Often prized for its CBD content and painkilling properties, Harlequin has gained a following among medicinal users. It may help with everything from joint pain to headaches, migraines, and even gastrointestinal distress. As with any strain, though, remember that these effects vary depending on the individual, dose, and phenotype.

The mental effects are relaxing but not numbing. It is more of a happy, uplifting, and stimulating strain that’s best suited for days when you need a little pick-me-up, something to take the edge off without giving you brain fog.

Side effects are rare, but a small percentage of users experience dry mouth and dry eyes.

Closing Thoughts: Harlequin Hemp Flowers

Harlequin was bred long before the 2018 Farm Bill and the push for higher CBD and lower THC strains. As a legal hemp strain, it delivers a varied terpene profile and around 10% total CBD, making for a strong, flavorful, and thoroughly enjoyable varietal.

It can only be grown from clones and needs to be monitored closely to ensure that its THC levels remain within legal limits. As a result, high-grade Harlequin hemp flowers aren’t cheap, as we’ve seen them listed for between $10 and $15 per gram.
