A Guide to Charlotte’s Web Hemp Flowers

Charlotte’s Web is the story that made everyone appreciate spiders, right before they went back to hating them. It’s a magical story that has inspired video games and films, and there is even a hemp strain with the same name.

Charlotte's Web Hemp Review

The strain was actually named after a young hemp user named Charlotte Figi, and it was developed by the Colorado-based Stanley Brothers. Their goal was to create a strain that maximized CBD content while keeping THC to an absolute minimum.

Not a lot is known about its parent strains, but we do know that Charlotte’s Web is Sativa-dominant, which means it helps calm the mind and relax the body without completely sedating you.

The Story Behind Charlotte’s Web Hemp

Charlotte’s Web was initially known as “Hippie’s Disappointment,” as it was bred specifically for its CBD content and had only trace amounts of THC.

The strain was used by Charlotte Figi’s mother, who desperately sought a way to reduce her daughter’s seizures.

Medical marijuana was still illegal in most states and the 2018 Farm Bill was a long way off, so it became a struggle to source high-quality CBD oil. She got there eventually, though, and the oil was able to reduce Charlotte’s seizures from approximately 300 a week to just a couple a month.

As news of this miraculous treatment spread, the legal marijuana/hemp industry was given a much-needed shot in the arm. Charlotte’s story was instrumental in legalizing this substance and featured on several TV programs and documents. She even became the first child to feature on the cover of High Times.

Unfortunately, Charlotte died in 2020, when she was just 13 years old. She was hospitalized with a severe case of pneumonia, which may have been triggered by COVID-19.

The young girl lived to see the culmination of a movement that she started, and it’s thanks to her that many epilepsy and chronic pain sufferers can legally and easily acquire quality CBD.

Charlotte’s Web CBD Hemp Flowers

Charlotte’s Web hemp flowers are fairly dry and plain. You won’t find a heavy coating of crystal trichomes and they lack the resinous quality of other strains.

The buds display olive-green leaves and a small number of orange pistils. They’re not the most attractive or distinctive nugs, but their high CBD content and unique history make the strain a favorite amongst hemp growers and CBD producers.

Cannabinoid Content

Charlotte’s Web has very low levels of THC and contains only trace amounts of this psychoactive substance. Its CBD content is between 15% and 20%, and while that’s not a great deal more than other high-CBD strains, it’s hundreds of times higher than the average recreational cannabis strains.

Today, consumers have more choice when it comes to high-CBD strains, but when Charlotte’s Web was first created, it was a different story entirely.

Charlotte’s Web Aroma and Flavors

Burnt wood, fragrant pine, and earth are the most dominant flavors in Charlotte’s Web. You may also detect notes of citrus and sweet berries, but these are often overwhelmed by those stronger grassy and earthy flavors.

It’s not the most distinctive or flavorful strain. You won’t detect the uplifting aromas common with cherry, berry, and citrus strains, and it lacks the intensity you get from many cheese and kush varieties. It’s all about the CBD content, and it doesn’t offer much with regard to flavor and fragrance.

Terpene Profile

Myrcene is the dominant terpene in Charlotte’s Web and this is closely followed by Pinene, which is why Charlotte’s Web flowers are so earthy and piney. Caryophyllene adds some spicey flavors to the buds, which also contain small amounts of Bisabolol and Limonene, imparting notes of fragrant chamomile and sweet citrus.

Benefits of Charlotte’s Web Hemp Flowers

Many modern strains are developed to produce a varied terpene profile and to provide an assortment of rich, pungent, and distinctive flavors. Charlotte’s Web was created purely for its CBD content and medicinal benefits, which is why it’s so popular with users suffering from chronic pain, persistent headaches, and other ailments.

It relaxes the body and helps to soothe niggling aches and pains, but it also calms and sharpens the mind. It takes the edge off, allowing you to forget about the stresses and strains of the day while focusing on the job at hand, whether that be watching TV, studying, working, or completing chores.

You may notice an increase in creativity and a simultaneous decrease in pressure and stress, allowing your artistic side to run wild and making it a good choice for writers, artists, and other creators.

Closing Thoughts: Charlotte’s Web Hemp Flowers

If you’re looking for a strain that will invade your senses and your mind, Charlotte’s Web is not for you. It has a high CBD content and is great for medicinal use, but it lacks the unique and pungent flavors of strains like Sour Space Candy, Cheese, and Bubba Kush.

On the plus side, it’s very common and relatively cheap. We found some high-grade smokable hemp flowers selling for just $4 per gram and offering an impressive 18% CBD!
